In a fall 2012 MIT Sloan Business Review article, “How ‘Big Data’ is Different,” coauthored with Professor Tom Davenport of Harvard Business School, we suggested that big data disrupts traditional approaches to analytics and disrupts the traditional roles of business and IT, because it “presents discovery and analysis as the first order of business.”
